Most enthusiasts of the Spanish yachting scene and a great part of Europe associate Astondoa with the manufacturing of large yachts with fly bridge. However, the make also builds open boats and, of course, they did not always manufactured large units. Its privileged present situation is due to an extensive professional experience.

Spanish shipyardAstondoa is one of the main Spanish shipyards in the yachts with fly bridge segment. The origins of the company go back to the year 1916, when Jesus Astondoa Martinez began manufacturing boats. His son, Jesus Astondoa Sanataria succeeded him and, nowadays, the company is presided over by Jesus Astondoa Diazo de Ottos, along with his brothers Iñigo and Covadonga, all of them grandsons of the founder. Without losing its identity, the make has gone through a great evolution and an unquestionable expansion in the latest years. The group is made of by seven trade names: Astondoa Shipyards, Commercial Astondoa, Constructiones Navales Astondoa, Astondoa Universal, Astondoa Sport System, Astondoa Varadero and Servicios y Montajes Navales Astondoa. In addition, the company has two marinas of their own in Santa Pola.

Astondoa yachts are built at shipyards in Almansa (Albacete), Gallarta (Vizcaya), Vigo (Pontevedra) and Santa Pola (Alicante), headquar ters of the company. In addition, the group has recently acquired the Faeton shipyard from Almeria, which multiplies the strength of their production. Throughout its history, the make has manufactured about 3.000 yachts. Its present range includes around twenty models ranging from 40 to 200 feet length, it has 70.000 square meters of facilities and its 500 employees manufacture an average of 100 units each year. From the construction of the hull to the manufacturing of the furniture, the whole of the manufacturing process is carried out at their own facilities.

SHIPYARDS
The headquarter of the group is in Santa Pola, where the central, commercial and technical offices are located, as well as the production centre of the larger models, the mechanical and aluminium processing workshops, as well as the moulding of the models from 66 to 122 feet. These facilities are on the West quay of the port of the Alicante town, with direct access to the Mediterranean, so that all their yachts are launched and sea trailed here. The 30.000 square meters premises have in addition a large paint shop that can take in boats of up to 40 meters in length; a 150 tons travel lift for grounding and launching the yachts, a fuel station and a large dry dock area.

These facilities are completed with the so-called Marina Astondoa, that has 40 fifteen meters length moorings that can be used during a technical intervention or simply as courtesy for any Astondoa boat owner. This marina was inaugurated in 2002. Conscious of the lack of moorings in this area of the Spanish coastline, specially for large yachts, Astondoa created the Marina Miramar society whose aim is the construction and the operation of new leisure marinas. The first project of this society is Marina Miramar, also inside of the port of Santa Pola. It is a mooring complex for boats up to 50 meters in length, with a total of 234 berths that in addition has a restaurant, cafeteria, parking, and a commercial area destined for harbour services. The possibility of welcoming large yachts, the shipyard facilities and their grounding area allows to take care for almost any need of a large yacht, turning the whole into one of the leading yachting infrastructures in Spain. The boats between 40 and 55 feet are manufactured in Almansa, as well as the manufacturing of the accessories and the cabinetry and carpentry works, it is also here where the company has set manufacturing criteria and some of the technological advances in the production processes that have been implemented by the company. Almansa is also the headquarters of the “Classyc” division, the biggest factory for boat furniture in Europe. In its more than 14.000 square meters the furniture for all the Astondoa yachts is manufactured with a great deal of care for the smallest details. The city of Almansa is called to gather most of the production of the group, on a land surface of one million square meters, which will be an authentic technological park destined to the construction of leisure boats.
