Up to a few years ago, when we spoke about large lengths everybody understood, due to one of those rare tacit agreements that turn what is circumstantial into a category, what we are talking about. Even though without anybody having decided it, boats of more than 24 meters length were already considered major words. Nowadays the "large length" concept has lost its precision and in all the fields, both in the specialized media as well as in the professional sphere, this term is being replaced by "super yachts" or – above this category - by the one of "mega yachts". Taking as an example the Monaco show that will be held in September, the international reference of this sector, the figure to remember is that of the 95 super and mega yachts that will be exhibited most are over 30 meters of length and 55 percent of them will have a length above 40 meters. In 2001, when this magazine began its journey, in Spain a boat of more than 18 meters was already considered a large boat. That same year was also the first one in which the Barcelona Boat show, responding to the increasing demand of boats of this type, began the on-water show in Port Vell. The floating show exhibited then 70 motor and sailing boats, although many of them did not fit into the category of "large length". Today, three months from the annual appointment in Barcelona, the Port Vell, with a surface of four hectares between linear moorings and ashore space, already has bookings for 250 boats and one hundred companies and it has been announced the creation of a village in which prestigious companies from different sectors will be represented where there will also be a restaurant and spaces for events and caring for the clients. And not all the large boats will be there, since with the expected extension to five! ashore pavilions at the Gran Via fairground, there will be sufficient space so that some units can remain on land. The Barcelona Boat show grows with the length of the boats and there are those who think that it is the European show with the greatest relative growth in the last years, well above Düsseldorf, Genoa and Cannes. It is clear that reaching Monaco in the field of the super and the mega yachts nowadays is an illusion. But it is not that, with the onshore and on the water potential plus the appeal and the dynamism of the city, the Barcelona Boat show could become in a few years the Mediterranean reference for "large lengths" of which we spoke at the beginning and, of course, for the smaller ones, both sailing and power, and all what is concerned with them.
