Destino: Without frontiers
Written by Miguel Torra Translation Marco Benevento
With its 37 meters length Destino enters completely into the large yachts segment. Solved with three complete decks plus the fly bridge, this Astondoa is a good example of the capacity of this Spanish shipyard to built units to the highest international standards.
It is well known that Astondoa is a shipyard that takes care of the details to the maximum. So much as to name their models by their exact length? What is for sure is that the figure 122'3 that gives name to this model does not refer to the length of the boat, but to its version. Of the A-122 GLX model two versions are produced, a conventional one called 122 and another one with three complete decks plus fly bridge, in which case the 122'3 denomination is assigned, "3" corresponding to the number of decks. Astondoa has already built four units of the 122 model, two of them with two decks and other two, as in this case, with three decks. The adaptation capacity of the shipyard based in Santa Pola, Alicante does not end here, as the distribution is free and of course the decoration and the equipment are also so.
Outer contrast
The outer appearance of Destino is characterized by the contrast between the powerful hull and the sensation of lightness of the superstructure. Indeed, the hull transmits a sensation of great strength as a result of the enormous volume, accentuated by the elevation of the sides over the lateral walkways, with a coaming ending up in wood over which some very short stanchions and the corresponding handrails are firmly based upon, so that as a whole it accentuates the height of the hull. On the other hand, the number and the size of the openings on the hull are propor tionally limited, so that its aspect is monolithic, despite of the considerable vertical windows that embellish it.
On the contrary, the superstructure wants to be light. A big lateral strip runs across both lateral sides at main deck level, to fit in the windows, whereas on the upper deck two large lengthened windows have been installed, one of them for the steering position and another one for the VIP cabin planed astern. In addition, both decks have considerable poop decks that, added to the fairly aft raked antennae arch provide a very dynamic sensation.
The height of the coaming contributes to an extraordinary security when moving on board. On the bow an important space for the manoeuvre has been intended, behind which a solarium has been anticipated over the roof that, seen propor tionally might seem small, but it offers comfortable capacity for four occupants. But the greater outer offer is on the fly bridge, with an outdoors dining room and a service piece of furniture, all protected from the sun under the antennae arch, plus the jacuzzi astern and much free surface to install chairs and deck chairs to sun bathe.
Relaxation atmospheres
The main deck welcomes most of the spaces destined for leisure and relaxation, beginning by the very large cockpit, where a large table can be installed to eat outdoors under the effective protection of the poop deck. Once inside, the space next to stern is destined to the saloon, with living areas on each side plus a table that will be ideal as a games area. A central bulkhead supports a large flat 42 inches television screen but it also acts as a separation from the main dining room. However, this bulkhead is only central and allows the communication between both atmospheres from both sides, without any door. There is also great continuity between both atmospheres thanks to the wood floor that extends uninterruptedly. The decoration has been entr usted to different Eastern style works of art.
From this point the atmosphere separation is more evident. If we go forward through on starboard we will find the main entrance lobby, with direct exit to the lateral walkway, a courtesy toilet, the main staircase and the owner’s cabin. This full beam cabin has a large double bed facing the bow, where a 32 inches flat television screen has been positioned. On each side of this room there is direct access to the bathroom, so that there is a washbasin and a toilet on each one of these accesses, but the shower is central, accessible from each one of them. In this way each one of both occupants of this cabin has its own private washroom, but they share the shower.
If on the contrary, from the dining room we go forward through the por t side we will find a private dining room or a breakfasts area, less formal than the main dining room, directly connected with the main galley that is totally equipped at professional level. From the galley there is a descent to the crew area, located on the bow of the lower deck. Here thee is a service galley with its corresponding mess room, as well as three double cabins with their own bathroom, two of them equipped with superposed bunks and the third one, with individual beds, destined to the Captain.
