Ferretti 761: The right combination
Written by Miquel Mallafré Translation Marco Benevento
The Ferretti 761 is one of the latest models of the Italian make, presented at the end of 2004. On the exterior image it uses the large lateral windows on the hull that identify many of the most recent Ferretti models, but its distribution is not as daring as in other models. For that reason some owners consider that it has a correct combination of aesthetics and comfort.
The Italian shipyard Ferretti was one of first ones to join the usage of large lateral windows on the hull and the 761 was one of the first ones the make in using them, along with the 830 and the 731, both previously published in this magazine, and that later have characterized other models from the shipyard.
The windows chosen by Ferretti have a rectangular shape, with the four sides slightly curved and a porthole on each of the vertical sides. The window is fixed and is divided in four parts in the interior, protected by three large reinforcements as if it was a frame, but the opening portholes allow the natural ventilation of the cabin.
With the addition of these large windows, the owner’s cabin, located at full beam amidships, enjoys magnificent views and can choose from completely new distributions, as it also happens in the 830 and in the 731. Nevertheless, the owner’s cabin of the of the 761 presents a conventional distribution, with the large double bed centred, living areas on both sides a large dressing room and a bathroom equipped with washbasin, toilet, bidet and separated shower.
The lower deck offers other three double cabins. The forward one is the VIP one, with double bed and private access to a bathroom also equipped with washbasin, toilet, bidet and a separated shower, equipment that is also available in one of the other two double cabins, although this bathroom is also accessible from the corridor. On the contrary, the fourth cabin has its own private bathroom, but this one does not offer a bidet.
Main deck
The living areas of the Ferretti 761 are separated in a clear way. Astern, the saloon, with a large sofa on port around a table of little height, all faced to a movable sideboard that hides the audio-visual equipment. Forward there is the galley, also on port separated with the corresponding bulkheads, whereas to starboard there is the dining room, with a capacity for eight. Dining room and galley are a few steps higher than the saloon, and the dining room is separated from an environmental point of view by the inner staircase to access the fly bridge. The design of this staircase deserves special attention, because the steps lean on the forward side of the one below and behind they support the one above, so that the whole transmits a sensation of great lightness.
Sliding doors with transparent panels separate the dining room with from the bridge, with the fully equipped steering position on port and a living area on starboard. It is necessary to mention the well-conceived solution applied here to solve the circulations, because a pantograph door on the port lateral corridor allows entering the galley directly and, from it, going to the steering position or the saloon.
Exteriors
Most of the Ferretti models are characterized for the excellent communication between the aft deck and the interior. In this case by means of a large sliding door and a window that folds upwards and remains stored under the poop, to have the maximum communication between the saloon and the cockpit, so that an almost total link can be established between both spaces. The cockpit has a large sofa astern, whose backrest hides a sink, an ice chest and the hatchway to access the engine room. The sofa is facing a large outer table, whose base is a large container in which the four chairs that complete the usage possibilities of this area are stored. On the quarters the manoeuvre is hidden inside individual desks, under a lid that hides the coffer for the mooring lines and a 700 W capstan. Also from each of the quar ters is a way down to the bathing platform, with a double storage possibility. On the platform the tender can be stored while a standing conduction water bike has it place inside. This is possible because the hull of the Ferretti 761 extends underneath the platform, extending the overall length and allowing this stowage possibility. Of course, the large coffer of the platform has an electrical opening... But still it is possible to stow away a wet bike on the aft part of the fly bridge. These tenders are launched with a crane that can move up to 400 kg. The manoeuvre on the bow equips two 2.000 W electrical windlasses that move the two 30 kg Bruce anchors.Their installation inside a tray with a scupper allows maintaining clean the rest of the deck. The cleats have Ferretti’s exclusive design: two opposed quar ters of circumference forming a "T".
The size of the fly bridge allows to have different relaxation spaces, with a large solarium on por t, a dining room astern, a well-equipped service cabinet and a seat facing forward, but the particularity is the presence of a solarium next to the steering position, which allows that some guests can sunbathe while they are together with the skipper during navigation. On the console, the electronic equipment is placed on a retractable panel, so that it is protected from the weather when it is not used.
