Relentless demonstration
If anyone can achieve high levels of sophistication, accomplish up the last wish of an owner and combining in a yacht the conservative image with the most innovative sensations, achieving a conventional yacht and give the impression that it is always the same boat when it is the number 800 that they produce, this is Royal Van Lent.
Trident, unit number 800 from the Dutch Royal Van Lent shipyard, with its 62 meters and six decks is the best example of what the legendary Dutch shipyard has achieved in terms of manufacturing boats with the seriousness of cruise ships and the sensuality of yachts. Not only the guests will find themselves in an atmosphere that exudes sensuality, they will also feel the ease of use, the comfort, the taste for good living and the pleasure of being at sea.
All that lives together on Trident with a cutting edge technology that, although present, it is not noticeable. The four hours that we spent on board, and during which Trident toured the Dutch inland waters, enabled us to realise that: no engine noise nor a single vibration. Instead, everywhere, the taste for wood and the fine materials around us, the breathtaking views and fantastic spaces where to meet other people. To have the feeling of being in that piece of engineering we had to go down to the engine room or to lean over the transom.
The collaboration of the Briton Donald Starkey with the De Voogt studio, creator of the yachts produced by Feadship, has produced spectacular results such as this one. The British designer is a fan of reinforcing the metal surface rather than to lighten it, and both the raised bow that extends to accommodate the owner’s cabin, behind the steering bridge as the bulwarks of the different decks and the quarterdecks that extend them accentuate that search.
Without using the thick radiuses and the added volumes that other designers use to liven up those areas on large yachts in recent years, Starkey has used wedge shapes, bridge windows wit negative angle and visors with inclination to maintain a timeless aesthetic. The length and the many decks are thus digested with great ease, and seen from far Trident could well be less than 40 meters. All that on a yacht with ocean going vocation with a great range, an enormous volume and the ability to cruise in any sea with its raked bow and a well distributed volume.
