A German Frers built by Hallberg Rassy

Hallberg Rassy 64The Swedish shipyard gave the brilliant designer free rein, and he responded by totally overhauling the philosophy of blue water sailing yachts.

If previous Hallberg Rassys designed by German Frers were classic yachts to which the Argentinian added his sailboat design magic, the new 64 is quite the contrary: a Frers from bow to stern, both appearance-wise and in her seaworthiness, specially designed to be built by Hallberg Rassy and subsequently done so with this yard’s signature precision, integrity and yachting wisdom. The difference is important, though, because this new launch reaches levels of luxury and sportiness never seen before on a Hallberg Rassy. Her seaworthiness, surprisingly dynamic, and her cutting-edge appearance, with a straight raised bow that outlines the gentle sheer and marked bevel of the deck, are far from the typically more conservative mood of the Swedish shipyard’s sailing boats. The deckhouse is perhaps the most distinctive feature. With sensual and elaborate forms, as the Argentinian designer prefers, it takes centre stage on an uncluttered deck and makes a tremendous impact. It is followed by a well-protected cockpit, with meticulously-designed coamings, and a spacious lazarette that completes the profile of a sailing boat. The presence of flush-mounted hatches and the effort made to conceal the anchor winch and furlers help keep the deck clean, which nevertheless boasts up to eleven ventilators, the odd winch and the hawsehole at the stem, with the anchor on show – much to Frers’ chagrin.
