The golden ratio
The new Azimut 70 explores new design ways. The adoption of shapes similar to those of a shark fin and the use of the golden ratio are the most outstanding on its outer lines. The addition of equipment to improve the navigation and the comfort stand out among the technological aspects.
The creative capacity of Stefano Righini, creator of most of the designs that Azimut has currently in its catalogue never ceases to surprise. Expert in granting personality to the yachts through the shape and the location of the windows, this time Righini explores new interpretations in the field of the design of the windows, both on the hull and on the superstructure. Where everything seemed to have been said, there is a new vocabulary.
We must differentiate here the different concepts used, depending on whether it is the superstructure or the hull. Azimut had used the idea of the shark fin in the shape of the windows of the superstructure in various models, including the 62 with fly bridge, but then it was the perimeter of the window that simulated the shape of the dorsal fin of a shark. On the Azimut 70 the huge windows have sinuous shapes, a large area of 30 square meters in total, and here lies the difference, the shape of a shark fin inside the window itself, not as a transparent part, but as an opaque part. Thus it seems that the fin emerges from the hull against the clear background of the sky or the sea.
The hull windows also are interesting. Located approximately at half the length, these windows usually provide light and views to the owner’s cabin, also in this case. But this time Righini has chosen a set of four vertical windows that shape an auric broadside rectangle. The auric rectangle, a crucial shape to determine the architectural proportions since ancient times, is obtained by lying down the diagonal of half a square and creating the appropriate projections. In this case the height of the windows would be the height of the initial square, while the length of the whole made of the four windows would be the result of the mentioned lying down. It is easier to see than to explain, but the practical result is very attractive.
