Custom Line Navetta 26: Light and Calm
Written by Miquel Mallafré
Presented to the public at the past Cannes boat show, the Navetta 26 is a yacht destined for mature owners. People who do not rush at the time of sailing and who prefer to use the boat in a relaxed way, but also for long seasons.
The first unit of the Custom Line Navetta 26 was presented at the 2007 Cannes boat show. This yacht has the aesthetic lines that have defined all the models of the Navetta line that this division of the Ferretti group manufactures, but with a series of differences that grant it its own character as far as distribution and outer profile. Simultaneously, the Navetta line appears as semi custom and the best example of that is this first unit, customised to its owner’s taste, no less than Norberto Ferretti, the president of the group that bears his name, for whom it is almost a tradition to test personally the first unit of each new model. It is not strange therefore because the typology of this boat has almost been defined by Ferretti himself and later has been put onto paper by the studio Zuccon International Project, directed by Giovanni Zuccon, and by the engineers of the company, grouped under the abbreviations AYT, Advanced Yacht Technology. The boat, with a semi displacement hull, is built in fibreglass at the facilities that the group owns in Cattolica, by the Adriatic.
Evolving Design
The most significant differences between the Navetta 26 and other previous models of the same range concentrate around the greater degree of natural illumination that comes to the interior. It happens due to the increase of the glassed surface on the upper deck and the adoption of two large lateral windows on each side of the hull. The new technologies allow to use this new type of aesthetic demonstrations with complete safety. In this way the yacht combines all the characteristics of solidity to undergo ocean going navigation with the greater amplitude that having magnificent views and natural light coming in abundance through in all the cabins means.
The experience obtained throughout several years of experience developing and manufacturing this type of yachts is reflected on this model, that keeps the general outlines of its larger brothers, such as the power of their hull or the importance of the superstructure, but with some smoother shapes, as it happens to the outer steering positions, anticipated on each side of the main one. The front roof has also been advantageously used to create a solarium. However, the size of the boat has suggested to suppress the Portuguese bridge in front of the windscreen, but two lateral walkways of remarkable width have been kept on that deck, directly connected with the large deck created astern. The cream colour of the hull also contributes to make its image more pleasant.
Main Deck
Seen from astern, the boat stands out for the relevance of its transom, although it has not renounced to the swimming platform. On the port quarter the automatic swimming ladder is hidden and the communication between the cockpit and the platform is made by means of a hidden folding stair on the same side. The method is quite obvious, because a folding piece shapes into the stairs when it opens up and it is levelled with the transom when it closes. On the starboard side, symmetrically, the hydraulic gangway is hidden and the central part of the transom is folding as a large garage door, so that its inner side conforms an even larger swimming platform.
The cockpit displays the usual sofa by the stern, in front of which there is a table with folding wings, with a total capacity for eight people. A large two leaves door gives access to the interior, where a unique space welcomes the living area and the dining room, whose separation has been achieved only with the use of the furniture. The great amount of natural light coming into these interiors and the treatment of the furniture, also in light colour, stand out. The saloon occupies the stern area, with large sofas on the starboard side and the dining room, with a large glass table, the forward area on the same side, so that the port side becomes the communication link on this deck.
The furniture is of first quality, as well as the entertainment equipment, such as the Radiomarine Playtime system integrated with an internet connection module, Bang Olufsen audio-visual equipment, chairs and sofas by Poltrona Frau and paintings by Vittoria Vanghelis, Italian architect and painter with a long collaboration path with the Ferretti group, who stands out for her paintings on wood.
The centre of this deck is occupied by the staircase that communicates the three decks, on port, and the galley, on starboard and with a pantograph door that gives direct exit to the lateral walkway. Also from the galley it is possible to go down to the two crew cabins, two, each one equipped with bathroom and two bunks.
The whole bow area of this deck is destined to the owner’s, having kept before that a space for the courtesy bathroom. The owner enjoys a cabin arranged at full beam, with the double bed moved to starboard, leaving space for an inner living area; the cabin also has a large dressing room, a fridge, works by Vanghelis and a bathroom that deserves a remark, because it has two washbasins, a separated cabinet for the toilet and the bidet, and a large shower with double seat. For two at the same time? For sure, because both the shower columns as the taps are duplicated.
