Rodman Muse 74: Total success
Written by Miquel Mallafré Photos M. Mallafre, Rodman
The Muse 74 is the largest yacht built to date by the Galician shipyard Rodman. It implies the consolidation of their Muse range, in which the luxury yachts that this Spanish group manufacture are grouped ranging from high seas sports fishing boats to professional ships. The totality of this project is a work by the Italian architect Fulvio de Simoni.
Rodman’s Muse range has been object of a long creative process in order to offer the best yachts in each one of the market segments in which they compete. The Rodman group is well known in Spain for the construction of a wide range of models destined to mid and high seas sports fishing boats, for their range of cruises with fly bridge and for the manufacturing of boats destined for professional use, from safety services to patrol boats, going through armies or high seas fishing boats. The creation of the new Muse range of luxury yachts is a break through regarding the models that the shipyard has been manufacturing until now, with a very impor tant qualitative advance, placing it at the highest levels of the international markets. The Italian architect Fulvio de Simoni received the order to develop aesthetically this new range, taking care for the main outlines that grant it its personality and for the design of each one of the models, including the integration of some peculiar design details in the finishes of the models that are part the range. The first model of this range was the Rodman Muse 54, presented at the 2006 Barcelona international boat and, just a year later the models Muse 44 and the Muse 74 were presented, being this last one the largest model of this line and the largest leisure yacht built by Rodman to date. The appearance of these models in the international arena has been rewarded with many awards, with three distinctions for the Muse 54 and the prize to the best development project for the whole range during the 2007 Cannes boat show. These models will be soon followed by others of 49, 67 and 104 feet, shaping one of the most exclusive ranges at international level.
Design with personality
The Muse range is made of in its whole by yachts with fly bridge, but clearly differentiated from the motoryachts up to 64 feet built by Rodman previously. On the superstructure of the Muse 74 a dynamic line that rises on the fore deck can be clearly appreciated, crossing the lateral windows diagonally and ending up, above and astern, on the poop deck. This line divides the superstructure in three windows. One of them is underneath, for the saloon; another one above, for the steering position, and a third smaller one, is inside the line itself and incorporates the inner handrail of the lateral walkways, that in this way goes unnoticed. It is also necessary to pay attention to the two semicircular windows on the hull, being possible to interpret that it is a single circular window divided in two. What is for true is that with this incorporation the main cabin of the Muse 74 enjoys a great luminosity.
Double experience
The experience of the shipyard and of the architect can be noticed on the distribution of the Muse 74, solved with great clarity and without elaborated solutions. Moored stern to the quay, the Rodman Muse 74 stands out for its large swimming platform. In this place it is possible to install one of the few options not included in the price, more specifically a central section of adjustable height, with a finish shaped as a grating that eases the passage of the water during the movements. This option has the purpose of easing the swimming and it is not used to stow or to launch any tender, which will be stowed instead on the the poop deck. From the platform there is access to the crew cabin, with a capacity for two, distributed in two cabins, a bathroom and a small galley and mess area. It is also possible to install a crew cabin with direct access from the fore deck, in a large volume that, otherwise, is used as storage space. The cockpit has a large sofa astern in front of which a table can be mounted to eat outdoors, whereas the manoeuvre of the quarters is visible and mounted on individual closets that hide the feet operated buttons for the winches that will help mooring. The fore deck is completely destined for the solarium, but with a certain degree of versatility, because it is distributed in two levels. The one closer to the windscreen is a completely conventional solarium, but more forward there is another level, almost as large as the first one, sunken within the shape of the superstructure and with a sofa in between both so that, as a whole, the area can host a great number of guests, lying down or seating.
There is also a sun bathing area on the fly bridge, in this case located in front of the steering position, so that several guests will be able to be along with the skipper during navigation. The steering position has an hexagonal shaped console that is common to all the models of this range and in front of it there is a two places seat, symmetrical to another one placed on the port side. Behind the seat for the guests there is a service piece of furniture and the whole starboard side is occupied by a large sofa that surrounds a table of adjustable height and folding wings. The standard crane is a 400 Kg. Opacmare; placed underneath the antennae arch, so that between both they separate the area destined for the guests from the aft part of the fly bridge, that is more technical, where the tender is stowed. The whole can be protected from the sun by means of two structures, one for the living area and another one over the steering position.
