The Naumachos 82 is a radical boat in its approach. Prepared to sail in extreme conditions, it offers a great inner inhabitability as a result of the limited volumetric of the engine room, and an unquestionable comfort. The Cantiere Navale di Pesaro shipyard has created a real exploration ship.

The Naumachos 82 is the result of a personal project. Stefano Carletti, writer and diver, wanted an exploration yacht for his personal use. Carletti is a well known explorer, as he was a member of the team that descended to the wreck of the Andrea Doria to shoot a documentary. The Italian cruiser Andrea Doria sank in the por t of New York in 1968 after colliding with the Stockholm. He is also the author of books in which he narrates other trips, some of them made on board of a boat named Naumachos, hence the name of this model. We will remember that the naumachias (from the Latin, naumachias) were, in the ancient Roman world, the shows consisting in representing the naval battles that took place in the amphitheatres.

In order to develop the project, Carletti contacted the naval architecture company Hydro Complexion, led by Sergio Cuttolo, who developed the design from the technical point of view. The following step was to chose a shipyard for the construction, Cantiere Navale di Pesaro being the chosen one, a shipyard with fifty years of history in the construction of merchants, passage ships and deep-sea fishing boats, that builds two ships of 120 meters every year. The result was so successful that they launched it on the market, and as a result they created a range called CNP Explorer Vessels, of which two 24 meters units have already been built and a 32 meters unit called Naumachos 105 is under construction. On the Naumachos 82 the design of the yacht has been a work of the Studio Faggioni, but on the 105 Aldo Cichero is in charge for the creation of the interiors, well known to our readers for his designs for shipyards such as Alalunga, CNR, Magnum Marine or Mondomarine, among others.
In addition, the make has foreseen two distributions in this length. One is destined for the charter use, with five double cabins for the guests, two for the ship’s crew and one more for the Captain, who has his own cabin on the upper deck, next to the steering position. At the same time, the Cruiser version is destined to be used by private owners and has four double cabins plus crew. This distribution corresponded to the unit displayed during the past Barcelona international boat show.

A profile that does not deceive

The exploration vessel condition of the Naumachos 82 is obvious. Its voluminous hull, powerful, very high on the bow and completely made in steel, with the aluminium superstructure. In order to avoid confusions we will clarify that steel is the material used where the hull has a colour and aluminium where it is white, so that steel gets to a very considerable height on the bow. The very large free surface astern of the upper deck or the windscreen with inverted angle results in the almost professional image of the yacht.
The main deck has a large cockpit astern, where a table with capacity for twelve companions at table allows to eat outdoors under the shade of the poop deck. Inside, the space is clearly divided in two areas. The aft one is dedicated as a living area for the guests, with saloon, dining room and bar, all of it with large windows overlooking the lateral walkways, plus a courtesy bathroom. Forward the lateral walkways disappear and the space is dedicated to the crew and the service area, with the galley, the crew mess and the two cabins arranged for them.

The upper deck has a large open surface astern, to stow a tender, in this case a Castoldi 18 with jet propulsion. But a 7,20 meters tender can be stowed here if it is positioned across the centreline, or even a nine meters one if it is placed in the longitudinal sense; in addition, separating the crane and taking apart the hand rails this surface can be used as a helicopter landing platform, which turns it into the world smallest yacht with approved capacity for that purpose, being able to take onboard an R22 type helicopter.
The steering position house has a projection towards the stern that lodges a well equipped service cabinet on port and a living area on starboard and, between both, a staircase goes up to the solarium, going under the antennae arch that acts as an imaginary door under which one goes through to access to this deck; nevertheless, the communications domes are not on the arch, but more forward, directly on the coaming of this deck. Individual sun bathing areas placed on each side of the arch allow to several guests to sun tan at will and there is enough surface for any other use, including observation.
The lateral walkways on this deck allow to go down to the bow, where there is a solid manoeuvre with the two windlasses placed in an aft position, on a stainless steel tray to protect the teak deck.

On this version the steering position occupies the whole house, with a studio on starboard, a living area on port, a central area for the main switchboard and for stowage, between them, the flags of the international signal code, and the whole front part destined for the console, where the professional standard equipment is installed, screens for the navigation instruments where the television close circuit can be seen and a touch screen for the management of the fluids, by an individual Besenzoni chair for the skipper; a staircase descends to the lower deck on port from the interior and there are doors on both sides to go out to the outer lateral walkways. The lower deck lodges the night area, with four double cabins for the guests, all of them equipped with their own bathroom. The owner cabin is arranged at full beam amidships, with inner living areas, a large dressing room on port and the bathroom on starboard, subdivided in a main area for the washbasin, the shower with Bisazza mosaic and a separated cabinet for the toilet and the bidet. The forward VIP cabin also has a double bed, whereas the other two have individual beds, but this is one only one of the possible distributions, as the shipyard is prepared to adopt any other solutions and equipment.
