Evo Marine Deauville: first boat with experience
Written by Miquel Mallafré Translation Marco Benevent
With the Evo Marine Deauville its creators run a new concept when it comes to designing and building yachts. Its main characteristics are that the structure and the technical facilities are completely independent of the distribution, which allows to have three or four double cabins and also an independent access to the owner’s cabin, at no additional cost and being open to future redesigning.
One of the yachts that rose more attention during the latest autumn boat shows was the Evo Marine Deauville, the first model of this new Italian make, with a design by the prolific Fulvio de Simoni, that in this case has taken care of the whole project, including the hull bottom. The owner of the make, Raoul Zunino, was salesman for Pershing and wished to develop his own project, combining the advantages of the boats built completely hand made, that provide a great adaptation capacity to the desires of the owners, with the technological easiness that the mass production provide, in the sense that the hull and cer tain installations are studied and developed for a great number of units, reducing their price.
In order to carry out this project Zunino got in touch with Fulvio de Simoni in autumn 2003. The first units were already launched three years later. The result is a yacht with new aesthetic lines, but subject to little aesthetic flaunts that could be old fashioned in a few seasons. Its interiors are well defined, but leave open different choice possibilities for each owner, so that it is possible to give to each unit its own personality without altering the aesthetic idea of the make. All this is transformed into a system of technical facilities that is independent from the distribution, to the point that the yacht could be disassembled to a large extent to change its distribution without having for that reason to change most of its technical and service aspects. For example, the fibre superstructure is reinforced because the inner bulkheads do not have structural characteristics. Even the inner lateral windows can be placed in any position.
Of the outer design it is necessary to pay attention to the disposition of the windows of the superstructure, that are three, but separated by frames designed in blade shape; one of the arms of this blade starts on the fore deck and crosses diagonally until the poop deck. The boat has vertical windows on the hull, for the main cabin, and we also liked the solution adopted on the hand rail that keeps the same height all along the length, whereas the teak rail has a greater height astern than forward, increasing the dynamism of its design.
A veteran team
If the participation of Fulvio de Simoni in the project of this new make implies a backing of professionalism, it is not less the presence of other people and companies of proven reliability. The yachts are built at the Cantieri Navale dell’Adriatico, where Pershing boats were manufactured. Sea For supplies the furniture, Giuliano Onori’s company, founding partner of Pershing; the totality of the furniture of Evo Marine is manufactured at the same place that the furniture for Pershing; Onori also coordinates the rest of suppliers, whereas the marketing is the responsibility of Dreaming, the company of Fausto Filippetti, who was founding partner of Pershing and that nowadays commercializes the make of the Ferretti group in Italy, France and Monaco, in addition to the Apreamare Maestro in France. The Dreaming group, of which C.N. dell’Adriatico and Sea For are par t, also have three yards - Olbia, Trieste and Marotta, where the shipyard is based, it employs 167 people and in 2006 invoiced almost 100 million euros. The third founding partner of Pershing was Tilli Antonelli, nowadays president of Pershing. However, it is necessary to stress that Evo Marine is a totally independent make from Pershing and the Ferretti Group.
For Zunino it is important to stress that, despite of the newness of his make, all the professionals who take part in the development and the construction of its yachts are professionals with a lot experience, chosen in an eclectic way and never implementing technological new features that have not been successfully proven previously. All this implies an important experience from those who are involved. The final result is a product that pretends to be trustworthy and durable.
Three initial versions
De Simoni has developed three distribution versions. The version that was exhibited at the past Barcelona international boat show offers four double cabins with two communication staircases between the main and the lower deck, in such a way that one of them is exclusively for the owner’s cabin, located amidships, reached directly from the saloon. This layout offers great privacy and independence to the aft cabin, that can be occupied by the owner, with total autonomy regarding the rest of the yacht, occupied by the guests, or the other way round, the owner’s family occupies the three forward cabins, whereas a single guest couple can be accommodated in the independent stern cabin. A second version offers a conventional character, with four double cabins and a single access staircase, whereas the third version has two staircases for only three double cabins that of course, are very generous in their dimensions.
Whichever the chosen version there are no changes in the disposition of the outer spaces. The aft deck is the ideal place to have dinner al fresco, under the protection of the poop deck. Therefore a table with a large base that allows keeping inside the chairs that complement the sofa by the transom has been installed. The artificial illumination of this space has been trusted to a large number of small points of light built in the ceiling, providing a well-distributed ambient light; a rail to put winterisation curtains has also been built in the ceiling. The stern manoeuvre, hidden in the fins consoles, has two cleats on each side and individual winches with foot switches; the lid itself that covers the manoeuvre also protects the third steering position on the starboard quarter and a sink on the port one.
The fore deck participates in the actual tendencies regarding space usage, so that a living area with a U shaped sofa, which surrounds a table with folding wings and adjustable height has been created here, so that the whole can be turned into a solarium. In order that the area can be fully usable, closets, a refrigerator and an awning that folds and hides behind the backrest of the sofa have been anticipated. The fly bridge is accessed exclusively from the cockpit. Above the sun bathing area has been located in front of the steering position, whereas the central area is occupied by a well equipped service cabinet L shaped on starboard, and a large sofa on por t that surrounds a table with folding wings, adjustable height and a movable base, providing great versatility to it, including its use as a solarium. Behind the sofa a 400 kilos Besenzoni crane will be used for the launching of the tender located astern; as standard, this tender is a Sea Doo wet bike painted in the same colour as the one chosen for the hull.
