Ferretti 630: The distribution is important
Written by Miquel Mallafré Translation Marco Benevento
The Ferretti 630 is a special boat. With all the aesthetic characteristics that the Ferretti Yachts personality grants to it, its inner distribution raises some interesting solutions that respond to a different way of perceiving the on board life.
Just looking at it is possible to affirm that the 630 is a Ferretti. It has all the aesthetic characteristics that allow to identify anywhere in the world the yachts coming out of this Italian shipyard. In the first place for the power of its hull, in which large lateral windows stand out specially allowing to offer perspectives and natural illumination to the owner’s cabin. In fact, the 630 is Ferretti smallest model having these panoramic views. What follows are the large lateral windows that can be seen along the superstructure, one on each side, practically from the stern to the steering position, properly reduced in the centre to give better views to the saloon. As it is obvious, the inner reinforcements are not perceived from the outside. The impor tance of the windows is very remarkable in this yacht, because the natural luminosity is quite prominent and combines properly with the interior decoration, based on teak wood and a reduced range of clear colours chosen for the tapestries.
Also the antennae arch raked towards the stern is a Ferretti distinctive characteristic, with the only exception of the 830. And what to say about the stanchions? Always vertical, but with the forward ones inclined towards the bow, which proposes a subtle combination of solidity and dynamism. It is necessary to pay attention to discover that the bathing platform is totally integrated in the hull, to the point that it becomes part of it and that its enormous inner volume is advantageously used to keep a water bike. Just as it happens in all the Ferretti Yachts range since 1990, the outer design and the decoration are a creation of the Zuccon International Project design cabinet, lead by Giovanni Zuccon together with his wife Paola Galeazzi, whereas the hull design and the propulsion system are by Ferretti Engineering, the shipyard own engineering division.
The importance of the stern
Presented at the 2005 Genoa Boat Show, the Ferretti 630 is the only model of this make that places the galley astern on the main deck. In the smaller models the galley is always hidden on the lower deck. In the larger models the galley is advanced, forward of the saloon and near to the steering position. Nevertheless, in this case, the chosen location is astern of the saloon, by the cockpit. The used disposition and solutions facilitates the use of the galley to act mainly as a hinge in the operation of the boat, mainly at the time of eating or having the appetizer on board, as it allows to take care for everything that happens in the interior and also on the cockpit, that in this way multiplies thus its usage possibilities as a living area and as an outdoors dinning area. With no doubt, they must be many the groups of owners who therefore prefer it like that. But this disposition also allows freeing the totality of the lower deck so that the three cabins available, only three, can count on a high degree of amplitude and comfort.
The stern of the boat has a configuration that deser ves some commentar y. An hydraulic gangway with automatic stanchions allows to access the cockpit, covered in teak, going over the already mentioned bathing platform, in whose interior a Kawasaki Jet Ski or Yamaha Super Jet type water bike that can be driven standing can be stowed. The gangway itself also has the crane function, with a maximum load capacity of 350 kilos, to launch this bike or a tender that is stowed on the platform itself. The gangway gets to the cockpit from its centre, so that the furniture has been divided in a symmetrical way with a sofa and a table on each side, or a large table with space inside to stow the chairs, which facilitates the storage of the chairs of the cockpit when they are not used. On the quar ters the coaming is wider and inside they hide the coffers with the mooring cleats and individual 700 watts capstans; on the starboard quar ter a door and a fibre stair has also been positioned to be able to descend directly to the bathing platform.
A lateral door on the superstructure, on starboard, allows going down to the crew cabin. Below, a first space includes the bathroom, equipped with toilet, washbasin and separated shower with cur tain; then follows a dr yingwashing machine in the passageway and, at the end, the cabin with an individual bed that can be replaced by a double bunk. The access to the engine room is not made from this service area, but directly from the cockpit. The lateral corridors allow a comfortable passage to the bow, where an enormous solarium and a powerful mooring and anchorage manoeuvre has been anticipated. In this case the warping-end and the cable lifter of the 2.000 watts electrical windlass stands out in the centre of the bow, but the chain runs trough an open stainless steel guide up to the 30 kilos Bruce anchor that is automatically stowed at the top of the stem, flanked by individual fairleads. The chain well has two large lateral inspection holes, equipped with pistons to make easier their opening.
The fly bridge has a large U shaped sofa astern, located on starboard, whereas a service cabinet that separates the stairs from the main atmosphere occupies the port side. The steering position is on port, with most of the electronic equipment placed on a retractable panel. A part of the backrest of the sofa folds down towards the stern, allowing several guests to accompany the Captain during navigation. The solarium is on the bow, in front of the steering position, so that its users can enjoy the views that the landscape offers and the breeze without any obstacles...
