This edition includes three articles dedicated to new technologies and their applications on board large yachts. The first is about the software known as MaxSea Time Zero Furuno NAVnet 3D, a new sailing and positioning application that not only provides three dimensional images instead of the usual two but is also a breakthrough in the overlaying of images. In addition to combining charts, radar images and aerial photos with impressive results, you can also add in meteorological files received on a daily basis or, whenever the captain wishes, overlay the wind direction and force for your sailing zone. However, this system’s best feature is the new cartographic engine that quickly renews images as you change scale, without any delay and surprisingly smoothly, helping you to sail in 3D in real time. The other novelty we take a good look at is the on board entertainment system presented jointly by Medenisa and Thomas Edison Europa, offering the chance to create “a la carte” projects for audio and video equipment on board. Perhaps this is nothing new, but it becomes totally impressive when we see the superlative quality of all the components, the best in the world, including a multi-room concept, a system that means you can cover anywhere in the boat via individual cabling and remote controls, using a large capacity central storage system (1,000 GB), managed via specific software that can send audio and images on demand to any point where there is a screen or speakers. The third article is dedicated to the Spin Yacht alarm management software, an alarm module that brings together all its functions on just a few screens and allows you to enjoy the far-ranging possibilities offered by PLCs (programmable logic controllers) to attend to and service your yacht.
However, technology is not only present in these three articles but also emerges from each of the boats we present, be it due to the applications they include or the construction techniques used. Kokomo, Comet 62, Aicon 75, SportRiva and the Astondoa 76 are excellent examples of the level achieved in units that, with the exception of the first, are semi-customised craft, a segment in which technology is increasingly employed to personalise boats. Reading the article on Spanish boat builder Rodman and its new facilities in Portugal, Rodman Lusitania, also provides an example of the technological efforts of leading Spanish boat builders to ensure they are at the top of their game in the world market.
